MEN’S DRESS GUIDELINES
When dressing for a professional headshot, a man should aim for a clean and polished look that reflects his professionalism and personal style. Here are some tips to consider:
First of all, feel free to bring multiple outfits for different looks. It’s not uncommon for clients to order multiple images. Sometimes you need different looks for different purposes.
Wear a suit or a dress shirt: If you are going for a formal look, a suit with a tie or a dress shirt is a great choice. Make sure the clothing is well-fitted and not too tight or too loose.
Choose a solid color: Avoid busy patterns or loud colors that may distract from your face. A solid color shirt or jacket in a neutral color like black, navy blue, or gray is a safe choice.
Pay attention to grooming: Get a fresh haircut and trim your facial hair before the photoshoot. But also keep in mind that some clients, particularly actors and models, also want a “scruffy” look as well, to add flexibility to their headshot arsenal. In that case we just shoot “scruffy,” then shave and shoot clean.
Accessorize appropriately: Consider adding a tie, cufflinks, or a watch to complete your look. Avoid wearing jewelry that is too flashy or distracting.
Be comfortable: It is important to feel comfortable and confident in your clothing. If you’re not comfortable in a suit, consider wearing a dress shirt and slacks or khakis. But also keep in mind that if we are doing strictly headshots, you can wear whatever you want from the chest down.
Remember, the most important thing is to project a professional, competent, and approachable image that reflects your personal style.
